When I was younger, I never liked this holiday because it meant that the Micucci’s (my mom’s side) would go over to her sisters and we would host the Consigli clan at our place. That meant that my aunt Jackie and my cousin would not get to spend the holiday with me—effectively kicking the holiday fun factor down a few notches. Now, without getting into the mess otherwise known as family dynamics, I have to say I really enjoy this holiday (despite the fact that we’re celebrating genocide). And so, what follows is a list of somethings that I am thankful for:
1) Of course, good friends and family. That’s a no brainer. They are my foundation.
2) Dr. Finker and all her herbs, for without which, I would probably not be healthy this holiday season. Oh, and Dr. Bierman, but I consider him family.
3) I am thankful for the strength and wisdom the last two years have imparted me. Though at times, it has been a really difficult growing experience, I wouldn’t be half the person I am today without it.
4) I am thankful for being able to work with and form relationships with people who also hold firm beliefs in “love & struggle.” Without them I would not have the tenacity to fight battles both personal and small, or global and large.
5) I am thankful for the T.V. show Jeopardy because it serves as an amazing forum through which I get to showcase all the useless information I have stored up in that thar head o mine.
6) Cheese and soy substitutes. My life was missing something until I found Soy Free Dairy Free Buttery spread—and now that I’ve found it I am never letting go.
7) I am thankful for shenanigans, antics, and twisted senese of humor. I have ‘em and I appreciate any one who does too.
8) I am thankful for my mom’s singing and dancing. It provides me with hours of entertainment. Right now she’s drying her hair and singing “These Eyes”
9) I’m thankful for all babies and all animals. No really. I commune with those categories quite well. Without babies I would be out of a job and without animals I think I’d be a very miserable person.
10) I am thankful for our deep-fryer without which turkey wings would be boring as heck.
